Next Nature Showcase

Four exhibitions in one

We are proud to present to you, our largest showcase yet: spanning across three floors, with a total surface of 1200 m2, this exhibition truly is a Next Nature showcase extraordinaire. This is where you get to experience your favourite Next Nature projects in a completely new light.

Welcome to your Next Nature

The Next Nature Showcase radically shifts your notion of nature. Exhibiting four of our flagship projects, this expo playfully explores how technology becomes so omnipresent, complex, intimate and autonomous – a nature of its own. The expo is divided in four chapters: Habitat VR, Bistro In Vitro, NANO Supermarket and HUBOT, these chapters will immerse your audience in tangible future scenarios and ask: how will we dream, build and live in the Next Nature?

Chapter 1: Habitat VR

The natural habitat of the polar bear is the Arctic. The natural habitat of the scorpion is the desert. How about humans? What is our natural habitat? And how is this changing? What does it mean to live in a next nature? To help us understand our world, we built an immersive experience that allows us to travel through different environments where we might live in someday.

Chapter 2: Bistro In Vitro

Some scientists believe in vitro meat could become a sustainable and animal friendly way to produce meat. But before deciding if we are willing to eat meat from the lab, we need to explore the food culture it brings us. Bistro In Vitro explores the potential impact of in vitro meat on our culinary culture. The exhibition is set up as a restaurant of the future and serves 30 exquisite signature dishes cooked to the highest standards using a revolutionary new ingredient: in vitro meat.

Chapter 3: NANO Supermarket

The NANO Supermarket presents speculative products that may hit the shelves in the next ten years. Innovative and beautiful, uncanny and disturbing, but always specifically designed to provoke discussion, the products provide us with thought-provoking scenarios that help us decide what future we actually want.

Chapter 4: HUBOT

The robots are coming! They are getting smarter, cheaper and more reliable. How long will I have my job before a robot steals it? The industrial revolution made muscular power redundant, the digital revolution automates our thinking. How to cope with that? Are we working against, or with the robot? HUBOT explores the future of work. Our goal is to inspire everybody, from all different levels of education, from young to old, including those who are currently excluded from the labor market.

But wait, there's more!

In addition to a visit to the exhibition, we had various workshops, lectures and other events on the top floor of the museum. Here, we installed a physical model of our Pyramid of Technology to playfully explore the seven levels at which technology may function in our life. Learn more about the Pyramid of Technology here.

This expo ran from December 1, 2019 - February 9, 2020.
