The sun lies at the heart of our solar system, providing life-giving light, heat and energy to Earth. The sun always gives, without asking for anything in return. In the transition towards renewable energy, Solar Design presents one of the greatest hopes by harnessing the energy of the sun.
We present the world's first Solar Biennale. A rich program around solar futures built on the power of Solar Design, shaping new relationships between humans and the sun. An initiative of solar designers Marjan van Aubel and Pauline van Dongen, with Next Nature as founding partners. The central question to this first edition is: “How can we design a post-fossil future using the power of the sun?"
Together we explore a future that integrates solar technology into a variety of surfaces, materials and objects, transforming our personal, social and environmental spaces. The Solar Biennale unites citizens, designers, artists, architects, scientists, entrepreneurs and policy makers to develop ideas and ways to collaborate on Solar Design.
Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam will host the central exhibition of The Solar Biennale, which will be curated by Matylda Krzykowski. In addition, programs and activities will also take place in Eindhoven and Amsterdam.
The Solar Biennale takes place from 9 Sep—30 Oct, with the closing during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven.
