Aniek de Rooij

Music Producer, Educator, Sound Designer & Composer

Rotterdam-based Aniek de Rooij is an electronic artist working across club music, audiovisual performance, and sound for interdisciplinary contexts. She has created music for installations for theater, audiovisual performances for events like Conflux Festival and was part of the creation of Geolift, a spatial sound installation as part of the exhibition 'Er was eens aarde.' that resides in the Next Nature museum.

Under the alias Alberta Balsam, she releases experimental electronic music on labels such as Dekmantel and Clone, and performs live internationally in club and festival settings. Alongside this practice, she composes for theatre, games, and commercial media, moving between underground music culture and applied sound work. Balancing club-driven energy with speculative narratives and spatial, and conceptual approaches to sound.

In addition to her artistic output, she works with other artists through production sessions and coaching, focusing on sonic identity, clarity of intention, and artistic development. She is an active player in the local cultural field through educational work with Pulsar Sound Lab and as a council member of N8W8, contributing to Rotterdam’s nightlife and cultural infrastructure.
