The music industry is witnessing drastic changes. With the emergence of artificial intelligence technology, no industry has been left untouched and there are broad discussions about the role of AI in the future of music industry. As open-source technology is becoming more and more mainstream, it's not out of the ordinary to see artists jump on the bandwagon to collaborate with their fans - while sharing royalties, of course. The blend of Timbre transfer (the process of playing a melody on one instrument by using the same melody played on a different instrument) and machine learning marked the beginning of a new age, where both humans and non-humans can collaborate to produce an extraordinary wave of possibilities.
Canadian singer Grimes launched Elf. Tech, an artificial intelligence voice software that provides artists and listeners with the legal means to create and distribute songs using an AI-generated rendition of her unique voice and vocal style. With the pilot software, musicians can record and upload their vocals, which are then transformed into a so-called GrimesAI voiceprint. This voiceprint can be integrated into original compositions, with due credit given to GrimesAI as either a main or featured artist. Notably, artists are now able to commercially release their AI-enhanced creations and in return are entitled to half of the master-recording royalties.
Grimes shared a tutorial on her Twitter, guiding her followers through the process. Additionally, she revealed plans to even introduce blockchain technology, ensuring fair and efficient collection and distribution of payments to all deserving parties. This opportunity opens up new avenues for musical expression and collaboration while ensuring that artists receive rightful compensation for their contributions. GrimesAI's voice software sets a precedent for embracing cutting-edge technology within the music world and marks a significant step forward in the evolution of artistic expression.
