The new fast-paced techno thriller, Biohackers created by Christian Ditter, combines an original and unpredictable storyline with a convincing cast to bring to question a very actual topic: gene modification and its consequences.
It follows medical student, Mia Akerlund, interested in biohacking technology and genetic experimentation at a top-notch medical University Freiburg in South Germany. Yet, further education and hacking college life with her new housemates and friend - biology student, Jasper, and his housemate Niklas - is not Mia’s only motive to move to Freiburg: she pursues a secret mission to debunk the causes that lead to a family tragedy. Her investigation leads her to gene-manipulation researcher and renowned bio-technology Professor Dr. Tanja Lorenz.
With her visionary research, Lorenz wants to move humans from mere creatures of earth to the creators of the world. Fueled by revenge, Mia tries to debunk Lorenz’s evil schemes in the six part series enticing a sense of count of Monte Cristo vibes. The first episode opens up numerous questions and parallel plotlines that fall into place as the series reveals Mias’s intriguing past in a suspenseful revenge story.
At the center of the intrigue lay the moral and ethical questions of scientific and technical gene research and its boundaries. The sci-fi series with a very topical theme thus makes its audience wonder: How far can we go? How far should we go? Judge for yourself.
