The PRELIFE consortium contributed to the scientific content of the exhibition Once Upon a Time… the Earth, presenting research on the origin of life on Earth and in the universe in an accessible way to the public.

More about PRELIFE

PRELIFE (Pathways, Reactions, and Environments leading to LIFE) is an interdisciplinary research programme addressing one of science’s greatest unsolved questions: the origin of life. Bringing together astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, earth and planetary sciences, education science, mathematics, and physics, PRELIFE explores how and under what conditions life emerged on Earth — and how common these conditions may be in the universe.

In addition to fundamental scientific research, PRELIFE actively engages society in this quest. Through educational projects and collaborations with artists, schools, and museums, teachers, students, and the wider public are invited to participate in exploring these profound questions.

The consortium entails Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Avans Hogeschool, Dutch Society for Theoretical Biology (NVTB), Frederic Petrignani, Marieke Baan Wetenschapscommunicatie, Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Netherlands eScience Center (NLeSC), Next Nature, SRON, Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Studio HB, Technische Universiteit Delft, Universiteit Leiden, Universiteit Twente, Universiteit Utrecht, Universiteit van Amsterdam, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
