About André Kuipers

André Kuipers is a scientist and the second Dutchman to visit space. During his missions, he spent a total of 204 days in the International Space Station (ISS). From space, he saw Earth as a small, fragile planet in an immense universe. That perspective was central to his story: space travel can help us treat Earth more carefully.

More than a space journey

Also there were short presentations about the future of space exploration. The full museum was open to the public. The music was provided by Connect the Odds.

Life outside of Earth? Growing food on Mars?

  • Astrobiologist Inge Loes ten Kate from Utrecht University spoke about the possibilities of life on other planets and the potential habitability of extraterrestrial environments.
  • Space farmer Wieger Wamelink from Wageningen University provided insight into growing crops on Mars- and Moon-like soils. In doing so, he demonstrated the practical steps required for future space missions and long-term stays outside Earth.
  • Space law specialist Dimitra Stefoudi from Leiden University highlighted the legal issues surrounding space exploration, such as property rights, international agreements, and responsibilities in space.
