Roanne van Voorst
Future anthropologist
Roanne van Voorst is a PhD-holding anthropologist and an expert in future studies. She works as a lecturer at the University of Amsterdam and also leads major international research projects. For the European Research Council, for example, she is investigating the future of healthcare and examining the health of pregnant women in refugee camps. She is also chair of the Futures Reframed foundation and editor-in-chief of a scientific journal on the future. Her work centres on the question of how our society is changing. She investigates what we stand to gain in the future, but also what we must protect in order to remain human. Roanne has written eight books and dozens of articles that have been published worldwide. She shares her personal and academic work every month in a digital newsletter to her followers. She also produces the audio platforms The Emic and the podcast Vreemd Gedrag Verklaard, in which she and her colleagues explain unusual human behaviour.
