As early as 2015, we spoke with Suzanne Lee, fashion pioneer and founder of biodesign, who was the first to grow clothing from micro-organisms. Five years later, in 2020, she told us how, through Biofabricate, she was working towards a future in which sustainable, living materials would become the norm.
What once sounded visionary is now increasingly taking shape. Biofabrication is rapidly evolving into a movement that is permanently transforming fashion, design and material innovation. A key driving force behind this development is Biofabricate, the world’s leading platform for biomaterials. It is here that science, design and nature converge to radically rethink – and above all, remake – our culture of production.

Since its founding in 2014, Biofabricate has been connecting groundbreaking start-ups with major brands, translating frontier science into tangible applications. From fashion and interior design to beauty and biotech, the organisation is accelerating the shift from depleting raw resources to materials grown from fungi, microbes and algae. In doing so, Biofabricate not only provides solutions, but also offers an inspiring, living vision of the future.

In short, we have been following this field for years. On 24 October, we take the next step. At the Next Nature Bio Conference, we will welcome none other than Dr Amy Congdon of Biofabricate, who will share the latest insights into this promising discipline. This is the moment to experience - live - where this vital domain is leading us.
