Somewhere in Denmark lies a big dome-like structure that is capable of growing what could potentially be the ‘supercrop of the future’. SPACE10, IKEA’s external future-living lab created a four-meter-high pavilion that holds a photo-bioreactor that enables high productivity of microalgae. Designed by architects aleksander wadas, rafal wroblewski, anna stempniewicz, and bioengineer keenan pinto, this food-producing structure thinks of a future where different kinds of microalgae are serve multiple purposes -- from serving as alternative sources of protein, to replacing biofuel. These algae domes could be running homes in the future, literally!
