Colorado Town votes on License to Hunt Drones

Are Drones the mosquitoes of the 21st century? They are rapidly propagating, while getting smaller and smaller. Soon they will be everywhere: Buzzing around you, spying on you and potentially attacking you.

A small town of Deer Trail, Colorado is considering a bold move towards the wild robotics. The town board will be voting on an ordinance that would create drone hunting licenses and offer bounties for shooting down the unmanned aerial vehicles.

$25 drone hunting license for residents 21 year of age, valid for one year. $25 drone hunting license for residents 21 year of age, valid for one year.

The head of Deer Trail's town board, Phillip Steel, proposed the ordinance that would enable the town clerk to issue permits for hunting drones with a shotgun.

"We do not want drones in town," Philip Steel told a reporter of 7NEWS, "They fly in town, they get shot down."

Although Steel has not yet spotted a drone flying over his town, he explained "This is a very symbolic ordinance. Basically, I do not believe in the idea of a surveillance society, and I believe we are heading that way."

Although it's against the law to destroy federal property, Steel's proposed ordinance outlines weapons, ammunition, rules of engagement, techniques, and bounties for drone hunting. If passed by the town board, Deer Trail would charge $25 for drone hunting licenses for residents 21 year of age, valid for one year.
